Memory is iterative, not static

If something is important, get the details down somewhere objective.

Our memories, wonderful as they are, are not great repositories for nuance and detail.

The act of remembering recreates and rewrites the original memory – a process which distorts and changes our understanding of the past.

Some details are emphasised and others a pruned each time a memory is summoned.

This curation is done according to our own narratives, not some objective truth.

We can be sure of things that never were and completely oblivious to situations and actions of which we were the main architect.

If it’s important, get it down. Otherwise, the next time you think of it, it just won’t be the same.
