I tend to dislike umbrellas because other people’s umbrellas tend to get dangerously close to my eyes (just the wrong height for wet weather). This doesn’t mean that I always turn up wet, just that I employ a different rain mitigation strategy (hat, coat and waterproof shoes).
If the status quo doesn’t work for us, then chances are it doesn’t work for someone else. Likely as not they will have already found a workaround for your challenge. If not, then we’ve just found ourself a market. Well done us.
We often accept the default out of habit, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best option for us. The trick is to be able to discern whether or not it’s worth our time to find a better alternative.
After all, it doesn’t need to be an umbrella…
