Normally this is the kind of sentiment that’s only invoked in a crisis. “It’ll all be over soon”, or “it can’t go on forever”, but what I love about this lesson is that it scales right down to the micro level.
Just got all sweaty and disgusting on the tube? This too shall pass.
Become inexplicably angry when your kids are being absolute wangs as you’re trying to get them out of the house? This too shall pass.
Get a mouth full of whole cloves because your husband didn’t fish them out of the bolognaise before serving? Well, he may well do this forever.
The point is, we don’t have to wait for a crisis to invoke some helpful wisdom.
Too often we treat this kind of lesson like it’ll lose its power if we deploy it too frequently.
But, the opposite is true.
If we deploy good lessons frequently, then we need them less often.
