I love finding “no regrets” moves. These are actions we can take which have positive impact in all (or nearly all) circumstances.
They aren’t contingent on other actions or actors – they have no dependencies.
Exercise in most circumstances is a no regrets move. Any exercise is better than no exercise, so in a spare 15 minutes, smashing out a routine of whatever tickles your exercise fancy is often better than not doing it.
Sure, you can debate whether there are better or more optimal ways to spend your time, but that time spent debating, can often just be spent doing one of our no regrets moves.
One of my favourite no regrets moves is to sit down each December and make a list of my “back pocket no regrets moves” for the following year.
This is a physical list of actions which I always have with me and which I can review in times of uncertainty to see what might be appropriate.
It’s not that any of the no regrets moves are surprising, but that it’s a good reminder got get off my arse and do something when I might otherwise just dither.
And yes, writing one of these posts is a no regrets move.
